Saint Mary Catholic looking dominant in DIII

Zephyrs coming off a strong 2018

*Only teams that had their head coaches report to Baseball Wisconsin are ranked.

  1. Saint Marty Catholic Zephyrs: TJ Skrzypczak back who was 9-0 this season, along with most of his friends.
  2. Lake Country Lutheran Lightning: 1st Team All-State Tyler Brandenberg leads a team that brings back their entire infield intact and is picked to win the tough Midwest Classic.
  3. Prairie du Chien Blackhawks: The Blackhawks were 18-2 last season, made it to the Sectional Finals, and bring back all but one starter including Gavin Gillitzer who was 9-0 last season.
  4. Marathon Red Raiders: Newly inducted HoF coach Steve Warren brings back most of his starters from last year’s 21-2 team.  Seniors Carter Hanke and Mitchell Kurtz are back.
  5. Viroqua Blackhawks: The Blackhawks are deep and return 1st Team All-Coulee Hunter Vikemyr and Andrew Wedwick, both of whom hit over .400 last spring.
  6. Random Lake Rams: Return majority of pitching staff and five starters from a 23-win team last season.  Catcher Tyler Landgraf is one of the Big East’s top players.
  7. Stevens Point Pacelli Cardinals: Veteran coach Wayne Sankey closes in on 400 career victories, with three, 1st Team All-Conference players returning from a 17-8 team last year.
  8. Saint Mary's Springs Ledgers: The Ledgers are the slight picks to stop WLA’s run at a seventh straight title.  They return every player from last season after going 10-7.
  9. New Holstein Huskies: The Huskies won 18 games last summer and made it to the Sectional Finals.  They return almost their entire lineup.  They join the Eastern Wisconsin.
  10. Fall Creek Crickets: Picked to win the tough Cloverbelt West, the Crickets have an experienced team and return catcher Marcus Cline.
  11. Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds: The Thunderbirds return every pitcher and all but one starter from last year’s 15-win team including three 1st Team All-Conference players.
  12. Columbus Cardinals: Five starters and four All-Conference players return to a team that went 14-3 last season.  Picked to win the Capitol North again.
  13. Wisconsin Heights Vanguards: Heights will have a strong defensive team anchored by senior 1st Team All-Capitol South, Payton Flamme.
  14. Coleman Cougars: The Cougars are the pick again to win the M&O.  Junior Seth Seefeldt was 4-0 last year and lead a young pitching staff.  At least six starters return.
  15. Valders Vikings: Will challenge with New Holstein for the Eastern Wisconsin Conference led by terrific senior Fletcher Dallas.
  16. Prescott Cardinals: Newly inducted Hall of Fame Coach Jeff Ryan welcomes back three-quarters of his starters and pitching staff from last year’s 17-win team.
  17. Cumberland Beavers: The Beavers bring back two seniors who were a combined 10-2. Won 15 games last year and are picked to win the Heart O’North.  
  18. Eau Claire Regis Ramblers: Return most of their staff and five starters from a 17-win team last season.  Senior Cade Osborn is a dominant number one pitcher.
  19. Boyceville Bulldogs: The Bulldogs bring back a deep pitching staff.  Catcher Trett Joles hit .440 as a freshman last year and is one of state’s top sophomores.
  20. Lakeside Lutheran Warriors: The Warriors were 12-6 and return half of their pitching staff and four starters from last season. Alex Ryan was 4-0, .420 last season.

Also receiving votes: Peshtigo, Winnebago Lutheran, Mondovi, Brookfield Academy, Westfield, Stratford, Westby, Howards Grove, Bonduel, Cochrane-Fountain City, Phillips, Palmyra-Eagle, Markesan, Fennimore.
